According to Fishnews, participants noted the activation of human exploration of marine spaces. There are new ways to exploit the seas: mining (primarily hydrocarbons), laying of pipelines and cables, construction and development of the coast, tourism, recreation, etc.

“There is a growing understanding of the need to combine plans for the development of river basins, coastal territories and offshore zones,” - said the expert of the Analytical Center Aleksey Grigoriev. The desired result, as the newspaper quotes, can be achieved through the marine territory development planning. In particular, following a meeting regarding the effective and safe Arctic exploitation, President Vladimir Putin ordered the government to work together with research and environmental NGOs to develop a pilot project for the integrated environmental management in the Arctic seas, and to implement it in the Russian part of the Barents Sea.
