There are active discussions in the press on the issue of the possible risks for Russian economy related to the reduction and cancellation of a number of fees between EU and Ukraine. There is also the possibility that some European products may get to Ukraine without any customs duties that were established between Moscow and Brussels.

Chief Adviser to the Head of the Analytical Center Leonid Grigoriev had a discussion with a reporter from “New Izvestia in which he pointed out that origin identification for products at the customs border is possible, even though it requires additional investments and makes bureaucratic procedures more complicated. Leonid Grigoriev also drew attention towards the fact that Gross Domestic Product of Ukraine represents at the moment only 65% of the value it had during the Soviet period. A new decrease is also expected this year. “Even in the past autumn Europe didn’t plan to simplify trade fees for Ukraine under this agreement, but now it is done on the background of the current political situation, - said the expert. – Moreover, under this Agreement EU doesn’t offer any significant financial support to Ukraine, but demands only that Ukraine modifies its legislation according to European provisions”.
