Head of the Department for Strategic Studies in Energy of the Analytical Center Alexander Kurdin participated in the round-table discussion “Future of Coal Industry. Will Sanctions Influence Geography of Russian Exports?”, which took place at the press center of “Rossiya Segodnya” Information Agency.

During the event experts discussed the development strategy of the Russian coal industry and considered the future of coal mining in the South-East of Ukraine where military actions go on.

“In the long term the demand for coal in Asia-Pacific Region will grow,” Kurdin said, adding that the demand had been recently high in the European market as well. “It is the result of a very favourable situation for the coal industry when coal is cheap enough for vendors to buy it and for Russia to provide cost-effective exports”.
