Head of the Department for Strategic Studies in Energy at the Analytical Center Alexander Kurdin took part in XI International Conference on “Exploration of shelf in Russia and CIS-2014” which took place on 23-24 May 2014 in Moscow.
The Conference was attended by representatives of leading research institutes, public administrations from Russian north regions and oil companies. The participants discussed economic, technical and political aspects regarding the development of oil fields located in continental shelf of the southern, arctic and far east seas.
Presenting a report at the plenary session, Alexander Kurdin spoke about the development of Russian Arctic shelf and its alternatives for achieving the goals stated in the Energy Strategy up to 2035. “To achieve the goals of the Energy Strategy, will require the execution of strategic initiative for shelf exploitation. This also means that a complex record must be kept of all economic, social and ecological costs of each project” – noted Mr. Kurdin. He added that the project of Energy Strategy-2035 contains certain quantitative targets. According to them, the shelf of Arctic seas must reach a share of 5% in oil production and 10% in gas.
Mr. Kurdin also reminded that the fuel and energy complex has lost his role as the locomotive of the economy within the frames of the new Energy Strategy, making the fuel and energy complex responsible with providing an infrastructure for the Russian economy.
