Russian delegation visited Baku and Gabala with the purpose to organize the V Russian-Azerbaijan Interregional Forum which will be held in Azerbaijan on 23-24 June, 2014. The delegation was represented by Advisor to the Department of International Cooperation of the Analytical Center Danil Khaidukov, Advisor to the Minister for Regional Development of the Russian Federation Maksim Chereshnev, Director of the Department for International Relations of the Ministry for Regional Development Konstantin Schkred, and Deputy Director of the Department for Extrabudgetary Investment Projects of the Ministry for Regional Development of the Russian Federation Vakhtang Sagaireishvili.
During the visit, meetings were held with the Minister for Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Shakhin Mustafaev, representatives of the Executive Office of the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azerbaijan Foundation for Promotion of Export and Investment and with other Republic authorities.
The Russian delegation presented the draft agenda of the V Russian- Azerbaijan Interregional Forum “Interregional cooperation: new growth opportunities”. Both sides agreed to hold the roundtables “Russia and Azerbaijan: cooperation in energy sector”, “Prospects for development of interregional relations in humanitarian sphere”, “Development of interbank cooperation”, “Strengthening of bilateral cooperation in the agricultural sector”, “New opportunities for tourism cooperation”, “Investment cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan” and others.
The Analytical Center is organizing the roundtable “Russian and Azerbaijan: cooperation in energy sector”. This event will be a starting point for implementation of new investment projects regarding the fuel and energy complex development. During this roundtable will be presented the Global Russian and Energy Forecast up to 2040, and the following relevant issues will be discussed:
- Hydrocarbon production: prospects for joint exploitation of oil and gas fields, possible asset swap.
- Hydrocarbon supply for the European market: competition and cooperation.
- Common problems regarding the Caspian Sea resources exploitation: legal, ecological and social issues.
- Electric power sector: synchronization of energy systems of Azerbaijan, Russia and other countries.
Russian and Azerbaijan sides confirmed their intention to get properly prepared for the Forum and to hold it on a high level with participation of a wide range of representatives from business community and regions. The Forum will promote the development of trade and economic cooperation, as well as investment cooperation between the regions of the two countries.
