Russia and China actively develop energy cooperation

Exports from Russia to China from 2015 to 2017 amounted to USD 29, 27 and 39 bln, two-thirds of which account for oil and oil products. At the same time, the industrialized East of the country requires more and more energy resources every year.

Russia is believed to turn to the East after the sanctions initiation, but a qualitative leap of cooperation in the energy sector was in 2009. Five years ago, two-thirds of all energy resources consumed by China accounted for coal, which greatly worsened the ecology in the country.

"The ash content of Chinese coal is very high. If it is directly used for lighting and heating of cities, it will hide the sky," said Leonid Grigoriev, expert of the Analytical Center, during his visit to the program "Delovoe Utro" (Business Morning) on NTV TV channel. "That's why they take our anthracite, engage in its development in Yakutia, and dilute their coal to lower its ash content."

The expert noted that the Chinese have long been investing in Russia. "During the period of sanctions, when we were cut off many financial opportunities, China invested a lot of money in our gas, began to participate in a number of coal projects. It was very important for us because it stabilized the situation when oil prices were low," said Mr. Grigoriev.

At the same time, cooperation between Russia and China can and should be more profound. Both countries will only benefit from close cooperation.
